SIGN OF DAWN

SIGN OF DAWN

            A great Guru (teacher) of ancient India asked his students, "What is the surest sign of dawn?" One of his students answered, "Teacher, when we can see clearly and distinguish the trees at a distance, it is dawn." Another student opined, "Sir, when we can see clearly and distinguish the people at a distance, it is dawn."
            Then the teacher gave his accurate answer, "When you see people at a distance and you are able to recognize them as your own beloved brothers and sisters, it is the dawn in your life. Then your life is illuminated by the radiance of wisdom."
               Blessed Mother Teresa realized that the poor, sick and hungry people in the slums were the charming children of the loving God. She dedicated her life to serve her suffering siblings. May her charity illuminate our actions and aspirations.
                A very selfish man once prayed thus:
"God, bless me and my wife;
My loving son and his wife.
Us four- And no more!"
               The road from Jerusalem to Jericho passes through our front. Let us behave like the Good Samaritan and be of help to any one in need. “Give to the poor and you will never be in need” {Proverbs 28:27 “Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!” {Matthew 5: 7}.“Suppose there are brothers or sisters who need clothes and don’t have enough to eat. What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!”- if you don’t give them the necessities of life? So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead” {James 2: 15-17}.
           The immortal musician, Vayalar Rama Varma of Kerala wrote four famous lines in his lyrics for the film, 'Thulabharam' in Malayalam: "Marditharillatha lokam; Dukhitharillatha lokam; Namuku nediyedukanullathu-Nanma niranjoru lokam!" These may be translated as:            "A world without the oppressed;
 A world without the depressed;
 The world we have to raise-
 Is a world full of Grace!"
