ZEROES AND HEROES

ZEROES AND HEROES

A young lady was proudly narrating to the Vicar of her church, the qualities of her prospective bridegroom. He took a piece of paper and a pen and got ready to evaluate the person. As she excitedly enumerated each quality, he put a 'zero' mark on the paper, one after the other. She announced the attributes of the groom in alphabetical order: "He is affluent, beautiful, charming, dignified, educated and fashionable." She found that the Vicar has marked a zero as she mentioned each quality and was obviously not impressed by his action. Then she added, "He is also God-fearing." Now the Vicar quickly marked a 'one' to the left of the six zeroes. The figure now read as: 1000000. He said gladly, "Now there is a meaning to all the qualities you listed. Without God, we are zeroes. With Him, we are heroes."
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" {Psalms 111:10}.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" {Proverbs 1:7}.
"Behold, the fear of the Lord is wisdom; and avoiding evil is understanding" {Job 28: 28}.
"For what this world considers to be wisdom is nonsense in God's sight"
{1 Corinthians 3: 19}.
